Boston's Running Physical Therapist

Most runners who find Miles Ahead have already tried something else.

Rest. Stretches. Another PT. Generic exercises.

And they're still not running how they want.

Runners of all levels—couch to 5kers, first-time marathoners, Boston Qualifiers, and even Olympians—choose to work with Miles Ahead and leave having completed goal races, PR'd after years of plateau, and fixed injuries that followed them for years.

At Miles Ahead, you work directly with me — Dr. Chris Herbs, DPT, strength and conditioning specialist, and RRCA-certified running coach — every session.

I don't just treat your injury. I take the time to understand you, your training, and what led you here.

Why you're still hurt.

Most running injuries aren't bad luck. They're the result of training errors, load management mistakes, or weaknesses that nobody ever addressed.

Returning to running without adjusting your training is how injuries become recurring injuries. Training guidance is built into every treatment plan from day one.

A running-specific exam, movement assessment, and gait analysis means we're not guessing. We know what's driving the problem before we build your plan.

What Makes Miles Ahead Different

Miles Ahead is South Boston's only running-specific PT clinic — combining clinical care with coaching expertise.

Runner-Specialist Clinician

I have been running competitively for nearly 20 years, have run 9 marathons, qualified for Boston three times, and hold certifications in strength training and run coaching in addition to my doctorate in PT. The questions I ask, the things I look for, and the plan I build are different because I've been on both sides of a running injury.

Gait Analysis Included

Every evaluation includes Runeasi sensor-based gait analysis at multiple speeds. We identify exactly what's happening mechanically and how it may be contributing to your situation.

All-in-One Runner's Care

At Miles Ahead, coaching and strength training principles are integrated into your rehab. Many clients work with Miles Ahead for run coaching and performance training in addition to physical therapy.

What Runners Have to Say

Just a selection of our 40+ verified Google Reviews

"I am an Olympian who visited town needing to run the Boston Marathon after freezing my eggs and I was SO grateful by how helpful Chris was for me. I seriously could not jog without pain but somehow needed to toe the line and he took me through manual work and also helped with exercises that helped me race with no pain. I am so grateful and wish I lived closer to his office!!! Thank you Chris."

"Honestly don’t look any further if you’re looking for a running-specific PT! I first met Chris when he was doing PT work on my shoulder elsewhere and instantly we hit it off. When I ran into an unfortunate leg injury, I knew he was the right person to go to! It’s been great working with Chris both as a coaching client and a PT client. I feel like he is able to make the coaching plan work better bc he’s up to date and hands on with my injury recovery. Additionally, I feel like I’ve been able to improve running and be mostly pain-free. Lastly he’s super friendly and nice so each PT session feels like you’re hanging out with a friend who always wants what’s best for you! Would recommend!"

"Genuinely can't speak highly enough of Chris! I've managed to injure and re-injure myself repeatedly over 10+ years of running (plantar fasciitis, PFPS, peroneal tendonitis) and since I started working with him for rehab then strength training and coaching while I gear up for marathons, I'm running the healthiest I ever have. He truly saved my running career and is setting me up with an amazing and healthy base for the rest of my life. Don't give up on your running career! Just come see Chris!"
